I don't know what "Tom Jiw Kai" is, but I do know it's incredibly delicious.
For a Friday lunch, the lunch program at Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University's Demonstration School is serving up a piping hot chicken soup with juicy fried Chinese sausage for the kids. They'll definitely be asking for more!
Trivia:
Tom Jiw, or "Tom Jiw," is a traditional Thai dish. It's a spicy, salty, and sour soup with basil and onions. It's usually made with beef tendons or beef shanks, cinnamon, potatoes or sweet potatoes, and tomatoes, and topped with fried shallots. Tom Jiw was first created during the reign of King Chulalongkorn, a recipe from Princess Yaowapha Pongsanit. It is said that "...when His Majesty grew up, he was interested in preparing food for his father, both when he was ill and when he was happy. He chose ingredients that were both nutritious and medicinal.
